Beef and beans soup

6 cup water
6 Tbsp beef or chicken soup powder
1 lbs beef shank cross cut
1 each large onion, thinly sliced
1 Tbsp oil
1 can chili beans Mexican style (15 oz), Safeway brand

Preparation steps:
  1. In a medium pot cook the water, soup powder and beef for 30 minutes.
  2. In the meantime saute the onion in a non-stick pan until dark brown.
  3. Remove the beef from the pot and cut into small bite size pieces. Transfer back to the pot.
  4. Transfer the onion to the pot.
  5. Simmer for 2 hours. Turn off the heat and add the beans (including the sauce).

Take note!
  • Beef shank cross cut has a large
    piece of bone in the center of
    the beef cut.

  • The beef soup base can also be
    made from the liquids of the
    beef casserole.
