Orange cake

5 each egg white
½ cup sugar
½ tsp cream of tartar
5 each egg yolk
1 cup sugar
¾ cup oil
1 cup fresh orange juice
½ tsp almond extract
1 each grated peel of a small orange
2 cup self rising flour
powdered sugar

Preparation steps:
  1. Whip the egg whites with sugar and cream of tartar until stiff. Keep refrigerated.
  2. Mix the egg yolks, sugar, oil, orange juice, orange peel and almond extract. Add the flour in a few batches and mix well.
  3. Fold in the egg whites.
  4. Butter a 10½-inch diameter cake pan. (26 cm). Bake at 350F for 50-55 minutes.
  5. Cool down and sprinkle powdered sugar.
